Cloud Computing for SMEs at Cloud Expo Europe
— Is there a need to deliver Cloud Computing over the Public Internet if the true benefits are to be realized? Acknowledging that Cloud Computing, in various forms, has been extant for some time within corporations, the speakers will address the issue of how to offer the liberating benefits of such an approach to a much more diverse audience with far more limited technical resources.
In their session at the 6th International Cloud Expo, Matthew Colebourne, COO of Nivio, & Johan W. Quintus will reiterate the benefits of a commoditized approach to computing wherein the user is liberated from the need to manage technology and instead is able to focus on its use. They will then review the implications from a cost, security, support and usability perspective and consider the future implications with reference to more mobile devices.

We have been busy re-making this to look at lot cooler, crisper and with more functionality – but whats more is the developer access we will be opening up soon – so via WCF and SoAP you can access the entire functinoality of live and add custome controls, tabs for your own apps! (Watch this space)

Thank you to everyone who has been emailing in for requesting the alpha for Lightswitch – we are slightly delayed (we want to make sure we get rid of the niggling bugs and make sure the libray is a bit more like a library (ie more content!)

So we have been super super quiet about an internal project called “Lightswitch” but the guys and gals have been working intensely – the alpha is going to go up within 10 days and I’m finally allowed to talk a little about it – its actually very very very exciting…

Firstly – why lightSwitch – if you look at our Mission (its plastered all over our offices now)  it is about being “The Number One platform in the World for getting access to computing, applications and digital content“ – so we realised that if we didnt do lightswitch we would never be able to achieve this – do I sound cryptic All will be told!

We then went through the tens of thousands of emails we have had in the last 6 months about NIvio and realised that a lot of people wanted the offline ability of not just their data but also the rented applications… (have you figued it out yet?)

And finally we looked at how we aim to make money (sorry we need to do this else we can’t provide a great service!) – and the answer was in access to applications – that is our “money machine” as per se – well until we get some ads going but that is a story for another day!

We then looked at our flow and you would have seen a lot of changes to how we do things – the new Live Screen now has a nDesktop Tab and you can click on it to login!

So much more to show you but one thing at a time

Now back to lightswitch – with it you will be able t rent applications from a large library (we have been busy doing deals with some big Vendors!) and use them for as little period as one month. What’s more is you can trial any app for 30 days for free!

When using LighSwitch you will not have any of the headaches around installing the software and the headaches it causes to your computer… so you can even try some of the freeware we have put on with no risk to your computer…

And we have a special surprise – the new nDrive but more on that later
